The company was formed in 1985 by John Oliver, Peter Barnett and Vic Dobbs in response to the need for an independent acoustics design company specialising in large public address systems. In 1986 Peter Barnett and John Oliver took complete control of the company so that they could concentrate on developing new techniques for the acoustic design of a large public address system for the Hong Kong Jockey Club racecourse at Happy Valley in conjunction with Peter Mapp, now of Mapp Acoustics. This project followed a successful implementation of an advanced directors conference suite at the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank headquarters.
Other early design projects included systems at a mosque in Amman Jordan, Olympia, Olympia 2 and Earls Court.
In 1987 Peter Barnett left the company to concentrate on pure acoustics through a new company AMS Acoustics Ltd. To this day the two companies work closely together to deliver a complete professional service from concept through implementation to commissioning and testing.
